MONTHLY PRACTICE TIPS PRACTICE GUIDE

Goals
If at first you don't succeed try, try again. Well, sort of... Sometimes it can be very frustrating to keep trying something over and over again if you continue to make the same mistakes. Try to set a realistice goal. Maybe you are trying to think about too many things at once. Choose just one thing to work on. For example, focus on the rhythm, the notes, or the fingering -or perhaps you feel ready to focus on the balance, the pedal or the phrasing. Maybe you would have more success if you worked on a smaller section of the music; instead of doing an entire section, try just doing 8 measures, or just 4, or even just one measure. The important thing is that you set a small, attainable goal. It is very helpful to try to set a realistic goal for each practice session. Once you have accomplished that goal, you will feel ready to set a new goal. You will also enjoy the satisfaction of having accomplished something! Good luck!
