Canadian-born pianist, Shirley Pethes Aliferis, received the
A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, Artist
Diploma from the University of Toronto, and the M.M. from Indiana
University. At Indiana, Mrs. Aliferis studied with György
Sebök and was his Assistant. She has also studied with
Alberto Guerrero, Vlado Perlemuter, Adele Marcus, William Masselos,
and Ilona Kabos, and worked with such notable musicians as Kathleen
Parlow, Aksel Schiotz, Josef Gingold and Janos Starker.
Mrs. Aliferis has concertized extensively as a soloist, in chamber
music recitals, and with orchestra in Canada, the United States,
Austria, Greece, Holland, and England, where she gave her Wigmore
Hall debut in 1974.
Shirley P. Aliferis taught in the School of Music at West Chester
University in Pennsylvania for thirty-four years and was Chair
of the Keyboard Department for ten years. Mrs.Aliferis retired
from West Chester in 2002.
