B# FUN FACTS John Cage, (1912–1992)

The American composer, John Cage, composed a work in 1952 called 4' 33" which consists of four minutes
and thirty-three seconds of silence. There are even recordings of it! It might seem odd to have someone do something like that but John Cage was well known for coming up with unusual ideas about music. Many of his compositions were intended to encourage the listener to think differently about the meaning of music and what
it is. If ever you don't feel prepared to perform your recital piece, perhaps you might want to ask your teacher if you could perform 4' 33" by John Cage -it will be very easy to memorize!!
